Whalley Little League and Surrey Canadian Baseball Association Announce Partnership for Unified Player Pathway
Whalley Little League and Surrey Canadian Baseball Association will partner in 2026 to create a unified pathway for high school-aged players, extending opportunities beyond the traditional 4–13 age divisions. With over 120 years of combined experience serving North Surrey, Guildford, and Fleetwood, the two organizations will offer a coordinated program for players competing in BC Minor Baseball at the following levels under the name Surrey Bears in 2026:

18U AA
18U AAA
Administrators and coaches from both associations will collaborate to ensure players can continue in baseball at levels that match their goals and abilities.
Whalley Little League, a seven-time Little League World Series participant, has delivered high-quality programs for 70 years for players up to age 16. “Strong communities are built when organizations work together,” said Clint Stewart, President of Whalley Little League. “This partnership strengthens baseball in Surrey by aligning programs, sharing expertise, and creating a more connected experience for players and families throughout the communities we serve.”
Surrey Canadian Baseball Association celebrated their 50th season in 2025. Field sport organizations in Surrey are increasingly focused on maximizing the use of allocated fields and diamonds. “Our shared communities have enviable baseball facilities, and this partnership ensures that Whalley Athletic Park, Lionel Courchene Park, and Holly Park will be well used by these four levels of play serving high-school aged players,” says David Leavers, President of SCBA. Leavers went on to say, “I expect more players will stay in the sport if we offer programs at multiple skill levels, balance commitment requirements with other priorities, and keep baseball fun and affordable.”
This initial collaboration serves as a gateway to further discussions about leveraging the experience of these two organizations into a more robust partnership. Together, synergies will be examined in various areas, including:
Program Development: Creating innovative programs that cater to the diverse needs of baseball athletes.
Process Optimization: Sharing best practices to streamline operations and enhance quality.
Resource Sharing: Collaborating to maximize efficiency and benefit both organizations.
Economies of Scale: Reducing costs and increasing collective impact.
Early indicators are positive: registration in high-school-aged divisions is already up more than 25%.
Surrey Canadian Baseball Association is serving as registrar for the 14+ partnership. Players living in the Surrey (red) or Newton (yellow) zones shown on the catchment map (https://www.surreycanadian.com/catchment-area-map) are eligible to register. Indoor winter training is underway, and players aged 14–18 are encouraged to register now to begin preparing for the new season that starts in April.
